Training Course

 

The Irish Forum for Global Health in partnership with the World Health Organisation and in consultation with Dóchas are pleased to announce a series of intensive training courses supported by Development Cooperation Ireland.  These courses are directed at providing the essential skills and understanding necessary for those who wish to work in health-related projects in emergency relief situations.  They should also be beneficial to those who may be involved in responding to similar situations in Ireland.

 

 

It is intended to have a series of training courses addressing distinctive aspects of health in emergencies with this first course being offered on a pilot basis and with feedback from it contributing to the design of further courses.

 

 

The course is a 5-day residential intensive training course addressing the topic of Disease Control in Emergencies.

Date: April 9th - 13th, 2006  

 

 It will be run by leading authorities within Ireland and the World Health Organisation.  It is a WHO accredited programme and may be suitable for continuing professional development credits in some organisations.  

 

 

The course will cover the following topics:
The context of emergency responses / basic principles of responding to emergencies / Rapid assessments / Water& Sanitation / Monitoring & early warning systems
Outbreak investigation and response / Health education & community participation
Security briefing / code of conduct
 HIV/AIDS will be mainstreamed throughout the course.

 

 

The subsidised cost of the course is €500, including accommodation and meals.
(In exceptional circumstances further financial support may be considered)
